RocksBox | May, 2015

RocksBox is my first monthly subscription box for Jewelry. I think the idea of renting Jewelry to wear is very practical. With RocksBox, you get 3 personalized pieces each box, they allow you to refresh the Jewelry anytime and as often as you want. For $19 a month I think it's a very good deal. My first box arrived about a week or so after I took the style survey, it was well packaged and the shipping was very quick.
There's a greeting card on top after you open the box and tells you what's inside, it also includes a brief feedback section allow you to write how you like the pieces. And here are what's in my box.

Sophie Harper Bracelet  $56
Kendra Scott Earrings $65
Wanderlust & Co. Stacking Rings $35

Overall, I am very satisfy of all the pieces I got, I always wanted an infinity bracelet! Dainty and elegant Jewelry are my favorites and that is what I had on my profile. I think simple pieces are easy to style and good for everyday wear.  I say the quality of the pieces are also very good and the total value of my May RocksBox is around $150.

If you are interested, I have a promo code xubff for you to get your first box for free (apply at check out).

Thanks for reading!

April Favorites | 2015

I have a little bit of everything for the month of April, skin care, makeup, hair but majority of them is from one brand, L'oreal. What a coincidence!
Starting from the skin care category, I only have one favorite this month and it's the Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-oil. My skin doesn't like oils, I've learned that after trying the clarins facial oil, fresh seaberry oil, ole henriksen, etc. Until I met this one by the body shop. This vitamin E overnight serum is a miracle on my skin. It's not greasy or oily, very light and doesn't take long to sink in. The result is I woke up with better skin every morning if I put this on at night. My overall complexion is much brighter, looks like I was well-rested even when I wasn't.

Makeup favorites of the months first is the L'oreal True Match Natural Mineral concealer. This isn't new, I had this for a very long time and I totally forgot about it. It is the best powder for setting concealer under the eyes, It adds coverage, brightens and sets everything in place. No need to worry about creasing or fading, it helps my concealer lasts all day. It is probably discontinued, but I think you can still find it online.

Next item is the Lo'real Brow Stylist Plumper Brow Gel Mascara. I was very excited to get this because I've read great review and I really in need of a brow mascara to fix my sparse brows. I like that it tinted the brows, very easy to use and will set the brow in place. It contain fibers but very very tiny so it doesn't adds more hair to my brows.  I will use a brow pencil to fill in my brows then finishing it with this mascara. It definitely makes my brows looks fuller and make the color last all day.

For lip product of the month, it must be the Jordana Easyliner for lips. I really like this brand, it is super inexpensive, easy to get and they often have some great products, like their Best Lash Mascara .  Their lip liner is the best you can find in the drugstore. They have many different shades from nudes to pinks and reds. It's retractable, great color payoff, stay on well and it costs like $2 each.  I have three different shades Baby Berry, Tawny, Sedona Red. My favorite out of the three is Baby Berry. For the past month, I like to pair it with the Rimmel Lip Lacquer in Nova in the center of the lips, it creates a nice gradient effect.

Last but not least, the hair product of the month is the L'oreal Blow Dry It Quick Dry Primer Spray. This is a really great find of the month. This serves as a heat protection spray and a primer spray for hair styling. I feel like it helps shorten the blow dry time but not a significant difference. It does makes my hair very soft and more manageable, it also smells good.

That's it for the all the favorites for the month of April. Thanks for reading.

May Beauty Favorites | 2014

May is definitely a great month for me. Weather is nice in New York, I finished school and I get to try a lot of beauty stuff. Today I have the most used and absolute favorite items to share with you, hope you enjoy.
For skin and body, first I have the Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. If you read my blog you know I have just did a post about this product. I absolutely love this cleanser for sensitive skin. Its gentle and clean really well, doesn't irritates or makes my skin dry after wash. The second item I have is the alba Un-petroleum Multi-purpose Jelly. I also have done a post in the past about this item. This is a multi functional product. You can use it on your lips, face or body, basically anywhere you want for moisture. I happen to love it most for removing eye makeup. It does the job wonderfully, removing everything even the most difficult waterproof mascara and eyeliner.  What I like to do is get a little bit jelly on my fingers and rub it around the eye area, concentrate on the lash line and lashes. Then I take a cotton pad wipe it off. The last item is the Coconut body butter from Trader Joe's. I discovered this from the blog Sarah loves makeup and I have been using it non stop after I got it, it is just so good. I like the coconut scent, not too strong or too sweet. I also like how it applys to the skin. It spreads very easily and absorb well. It doesn't feel heavy or sticky at all, skin feels instantly refreshed and moisturized.

Moving on to the makeup, First of all I have to mention the Stila Color Me Pretty Lip & Cheek Palette. I actually got it not long ago and haven't been using it for the whole month, but I absolutely love it, so I have to include this in this month's favorites. The color payoff is great, all the color in the palette is beautiful and wearable.  I have posted a swatches on my Instagram you can check it out but I will do a full review on this blog later.
Next makeup item I am loving this month is the Revlon Highlighting Palette in rose glow. I have done a blog post on that as well, so you can go get more info if you want. In my opinion, it is a gorgeous little palette that is just so pretty to look at and of course to put on. The next item is an old favorites of mine, it is the L'oreal True Match Gentle Mineral Concealer. I really like the L'oreal true match line, I have the powder and the concealer. The concealer is really great for setting under eye area and it brightens very well. I'm not sure if this is a discontinued item, but I have already got a few backups from Big lots. The next item I want to include is the Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara. I got a deluxe sample size one from the Sephora Favorite kit. The mascara in that set is all very good but I have been particularly loving this one. I found a lot of high end mascara that does lengthening and thickening can be very clumpy and wet, but this one is not. It still has the ability to separate the lashes and it's not super wet.

The last favorites of the month is the Ecotools Eye Enhancing Duo Set.  I am really debating when it comes to double ended brushes and I never found one that has all the brush shapes that I want with good quality. This one is very close to my desire and I have been using them everyday now. I say these four brush shapes are all very practical for applying eye shadows and liner, the only complain I have is that I wish the blending brush is bigger and fluffier so that it can cover bigger area and blend everything nicely.

That's everything for the month of May, thanks for reading.

April Favorites | 2014

Starting from the makeup category, I have the Maybelline Rocket Mascara. I always have good luck with Maybelline mascara in its waterproof formula, it holds my curl well, doesn't smudge and last all day. I bought the color dark brown which is very suitable for everyday wear with light, natural makeup. I like how it coats every lashes without clumps and it also works well for my barely there lower lashes.

Next I have the essence coverstick in 01 matt sand. I haven't wore any foundation these days, I don't feel the need covering my entire face for regular days. Concealer and powder are good enough to make me look presentable. This concealer stick by essence is a pretty good one for the price. I use it mainly on the center of my face to even out skin tone and concealing under eye areas. I don't find it looks dry or emphasizes my fine lines which is very good. The only complain I have with it is that it doesn't works well for spot concealing, I still use Maybelline Fit me concealer for that.
Another favorite concealer of the month is the Bare Minerals Multi-Tasking Concealer. I got it from a try out set of Bare Minerals products. It is my first time trying a powder concealer and I am very impressed by the coverage it provides, however the color runs dark for me so are the other products in that set.
Moving on to the powder I use on top of concealer, my favorite one still is the matte setting powder by Cover Fx. I have done a blog post on that before, it is an amazing powder. It helps minimize imperfections such as pores and fine lines, sets everything without adding an extra layer. I adore this powder also because it was made with fine indigence without harmful chemicals.
Next makeup favorites is the Rimmel Scandale Eyes Shadow Crayon in the color bulletproof beige. I also have a blog post before mentioning this product. I just enjoy the easiness of product like this, bright color, blend nicely and last all day. I use it on my eye lids, blend it out and adding a darker color to my crease and it's done.  I have really putting this to use for the past month, maybe because I am too lazy to think about what eye shadow to wear.

For hair,  I am still in love with the Macadamia Healing Oil Spray. I like to spray it on my hands then run my fingers through my hair after blow dry and styling. It absorb very well, adds shine, smooths out tangles and making my hair really soft. It has zero oiliness or heaviness.
I‘m saving the best to the end. A new discover this month is the Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo. Besides their snacks and tea, I am surprised that I found another favorite in the store but in the body and hair category. I like this shampoo because it cleans well and doesn't strips my hair or make it dry. It lathers well and it has a little tingle and cooling sensation which feels very nice. My hair is really soft and clean afterwards, I also has volume and my hair doesn't get oily the next day. If you haven't try this yet, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for reading.

Recent Loves

Let's start from the makeup category, first I have the hourglass mineral primer. This is my first purchase of hourglass. I wanted to try this primer mainly because it's a mineral product, free of any harsh and chemical ingredients and also because it's a multi-functional product and contains spf 15. It claims concealing redness, minimizing pores and soften fine lines and wrinkles, repels water and creates the perfect surface for flawless makeup. It has a milky watery texture, apply easily on and blend well, left skin soft and velvet feeling. I do see the difference after, my skin tone is a little bit even, pores and imperfection are less obvious, however I didn't notice it has the ability to conceal redness. I do see the difference after makeup though, it controls oil well during the day and my makeup does last to the end of the day.

Next I have two products from essence, the crazy volume mascara and stays no matter what eye pencil & shadow in whipped white frosting. The shadow pencil has a great texture to it, easy to apply and blend. The color is pigmented and vibrant, shimmer but not glittery. It stays put all day without fading, I like to use it under the brow bone, as highlight, in the corner of the eyes and as a shadow base.
I've heard good things about essence's mascara, between the green one and the pink one I picked the pink which is the extreme one to try. It has both pros & cons, but consider the fabulous result it gives and the unbelievable low price, I think it's a keeper. It gives a lot volume and length, extremely dark black, and the brush design makes it can brush out really thick and long lashes, like you're wearing falsies. I really like the look it gives, it's thicker at the roots and fan out at the top, lashes are still soft to touch and light weight. The cons: it can get a little messy if you have short lashes, like me, it can clump together but brush out the extra product on the wand before using will help.

Then I have the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eye Liner in sparkling black. I think everybody know they are great, nice texture, stays without smudging or transferring, affordable. I usually prefer to use liquid liner, but I really like the effects the pencil gives. I like to smudge it with a brush to create a softer look and also I like to use it with a liquid liner on top for a intense look. The glitter in it will show and it's really beautiful contrast to the dark black.
The last product in this category I want to mention is the Sally Hansen Colorfast tint and moisture balm. I think these came out after the Revlon one's and which is why they got neglected since the market is already filled with similar products. I personally really like these, I use it more often than other lip products. The color I have here is 15 Made Me Blush, I love this one out of all the color selection they had. Like other lip tint & moisture balm, it wears comfortable on lips, very thin and moisturizing. The reason I adore this one beside this color is that it sets very quickly, last incredibility long, even the surface color wear off during the day the tint color stays on so I won't end up with bare lips, and they cost far less than Revlon or other brand.
Moving on the skin and body care, I have two products. The Clarins Tonic Body treatment oil and the alba multi-purpose jelly. Clarins is the brand that I wanted to try for the longest time, I'm most interested of their body products. This body oil contains 100% pure plant extracts, I use it almost everyday for firming and moisturizing. It absorbs well into the skin, even though I'm not a fan of the smell but it isn't overwhelming. It feels calm and comfortable afterwards and it kept my skin super silky soft.
The alba multi-purpose jelly is a must have for dry skin during cold reason I think. It's 100% vegetarian, safe to use all over the body, even on face. I use it for my lips overnight and anywhere on my body that is extra dry or itchy. It has a very very thick texture to it, doesn't have any scent to it.
Sally Hansen Colorfast tint & moisture balm 15 Made Me Blush, Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eye Liner in sparkling black, essence stays no matter what eye pencil & shadow in whipped white frosting

November Hits & Misses

I know I'm late on this but I decided to share my November favorites and disappointment with you. For the past months or so I actually had a lot of new products to try, from skin care to makeup and I found couples of good products so that I want to talk about first.

First let's start from skin care. I have two products from First Aid Beauty, the Ultra Repair cream and instant oatmeal mask. I'm currently using the cream as my day moisturizer. Honestly, I had my doubts when I place my order though, worries that it's going to be thick and heavy, difficult to absorb , but after I tried it, it turns out really really good. Easy to spread over, absorb quickly, it's thick enough to deliver the moisture but doesn't leave any heavy or greasy feeling behind. Skin felt calm and well protected afterwards.

I am also really enjoy using the Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask for a quick fix when my skin feeling extra dry or uncomfortable. What's great about this mask is that it's quick and easy, only takes 10 minutes and you are good to go. I like it a lot because of this, some times you don't have time for a 20-30 minutes facial, you know. Besides above mentioned, the result this mask is offering also amaze me, skin felt very smooth, super soft and hydrated.

On to lips and eyes, I have a new eye cream to share. After I finished the Bobbie Brown Hydrating Eye cream, I decided to go natural again and try something different from the drugstore so I picked the Burt's Bee Radiance Eye Cream with Royal Jelly. I saw a lot of good review on Amazon and drugstore.com and that's the main reason I decided to give it a try. This eye cream has a really different texture to it. It's a cream but very light and fluffy, that makes it easy to apply and absorb. I like it because it's not heavy but good enough to take care of the delicate area.
For the cold winter months I have to have the smith's rosebud salve for my chapped lips.  When I noticed applying lip balm wasn't enough to solve the problem I will use this. The best way I found for this to work is to apply a very thick layer before bed (go generously), and next day you will wake up with baby soft lips.

On to makeup and skin care related product, this is what I'm most excited about,  I have discovered a new favorite makeup remover. It's the Soothing Makeup Remover Lotion by Klorane.  I think the best way for me to describe it and for you to understand is to compare it with a well-known similar product, which is the Bioderma. This works exactly like the Bioderma, very gentle, the texture is like pure water, it takes down makeup instantly with a cotton pad and it's non-rinse and alcohol free. It's gentle, with simple ingredients and it also has a pump so no need to pour and it's easy to control the amount. The only complain that I had is for waterproof mascara, it's a little difficult to remove with this, but I had the same problem with Bioderma so it doesn't bothers me that much. Between the two, I will definitely choose this since it's easy to get, available at Amazon and drugstore.com.

For the miss of the month, I have the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara and Earth Beauty Mineral Colors Blush in Primrose. I know a lot of people like the organic wear mascara but I just found it doesn't works for me. I have tried the one in the picture and the one with black packaging, both have the same issues. The good is it does coat my lashes well and add definition and volume, but it doesn't hold my curls well and most disappointingly, it smudges really bad. I noticed it takes a bit longer to dry but even after it's completely dry it smudges after one or two hours. And watch out if you are having hot drinks or food, like hot soup, it melt instantly and gets to everywhere.
On to the blush, when I bought it I really had high hopes for it because it's a mineral blush, made with simple and natural ingredients, so I thought it's going to be good. Turns out it disappointed me badly on the pigmentation. It comes with a nice decent amount of product and the color looks really pretty, but honestly, it has no pigmentation. I will have to use a heavy hand to get the color to show and it doesn't even look good on. It looks flat and the color isn't match what's in the container, it looks a bit dark and dirty for some reason.

Anyway, here's my hits and misses of the month, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading.

September Beauty Favorites | 2013

Time flies so fast and I still can't believe it's already the end of September. I had a tremendous busy month, a lot of changes going on in my life, school started and I feel very stressed. Anyway, today I finally had some time to sit down and share my favorites of the month with you.
I don't know about you but the weather where I live is already cool and cold in the morning and evening. My skin became very thin and dry these days, easily get irritated. I have dry patches, redness on my cheeks, around my nose and chin. It's itching and can get really bad to the point that I can't even wear any makeup. I assume it's because of season change, anyway there are two skin care products that I used this month and I really liked.

Thayers Alcohol Free Toner- Cucumber Witch Hazel
This is a very good toner for use both day at night. It's alcohol free and contains natural ingredients such as cucumber, witch hazel and aloe. It's refreshing and cooling, moisturizes skin and release dry and tightness. I enjoy using this with compressed facial mask for a quick facial, only takes 10mins or so but the result is fabulous. It helps tighten my pores and reduce redness, skin feels calm, supple and hydrated. I also have the Rose Petal one, it's also great and smells good.

Hadanomy Collegan Cream
This cream is a long time favorite of mine and usually I enjoy using this at winter time. Since I have lots of skin issues recently and my face feels so dry, I pull it out to use at night time. It contains micro collagen 1000mg, hyaluronic acid, honey and acerola extract, I guess that's why it's soothing and so hydrating. It has a jelly texture, lightweight and easy for skin to absorb. When applied, it has cooling effect and very refreshing, once absorbed it brings back the elasticity of the skin without any oilness or heavy feeling.

AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream
I know there're lots good hand cream to choose in the market but there's something special about this one made me really like it. It smells nice, unlike those highly fragranced or vaseline hand cream, it has a very natural scent similar to the typical scent of this brand but a bit different. It has more of a dense texture but applies very smooth, you only need small amount but it absorbs and moisturizes very well without leaving any greasiness behind. It's high quality and has that velvety feeling, leaves my hand so so soft.

Macadamia Healing oil spray
I came across several blog post mentioning this product recently, and since I am looking for a good hair oil for the longest time to rescue my hair, I figured to give it a try. I have naturally straight hair and because I use heat quite often so my hair is heat damaged even though I always use heat protector. I enjoy using this oil on both damp and dry hair, it softens and bringing back the moisture to my hair, adds shine and smooth out any tangle, it even makes my split ends less obvious. It's easy to use, doesn't weigh my hair down and leaves no greasiness on my hair and my hand.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
If you tried it and you know this is a really good concealer from the drugstore. It blends very well, covers and super inexpensive. I mentioned before that I first bought no. 15 fair which is not so good for my dark circles so I got no. 10 light which is perfect. I also like to mix these two sometimes just for a better color match.

NYX For Your Eyes Only Mysterious Brown Eyes
I like NYX shadows because they are very good quality for the price. I have this palette since spring and almost forgot it. The shadows in this palette is kind of hit or miss I would say but I like most of the neutral colors here and used it almost everyday this month. The two shadow in the middle are my favorite. The pigmentation of these two is very good (better than the rest of color in this palette), creamy texture, feels buttery and looks beautiful on.

Summer Makeup Favorites | 2013

Hello, as you may or may not know I am just came back from Asia a few days ago and currently I am still in the process of arranging things and dealing with jet lag. I plan to share some of the pictures from my trip on my blog later on, so stay tune if you want to see that.
Back to the topic of this blog post I want to share with you my favorite makeup products of this summer. These products I either brought with me or purchased on my trip, they are all been tested for long hours wear under super hot weather, I can assure you that.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
I don't necessarily use eyelid primer on the daily basis because I don't have oily eyelids but for hot weather, especially for temperature that are above 100°F plus humidity, I need something for my makeup to last. This is what I've been using under my eyeshadows for the past three months. Thanks to it my eyeshadows are still looking pretty good after 8-10 hours wear, no smudging or fading. Unfortunately no face makeup can past the heat test and I am unable to find a product to prevent my face makeup melting away.

Kiss me Liquid Eyeliner
I heard lots of good things about this brand, Kiss Me, especially their liquid eyeliner pen and mascara so I bought both of them while I was in Asia. The liquid eyeliner is an awesome product, easy to use, dark black color, dry fast and stay in place. You can do the thinnest line with this pen, line the corner of the eye, go between the lashes, it's just so easy to use.

 IN2IT Gel Liner Pen
I bought this duo while I was in Thailand, their local Watsons carry this brand and I figure why not try it since it's so inexpensive. It comes with two liner pens, 02 henna brown and 04 salmon. Henna brow is a dark brown color and salmon is a pale beige/champagne color, both contain shimmer in it. The quality of these liner pens are just wonderful, pigmented, vibrant and it sets into place but still allows you enough time to work with it. It is very easy to use and it also last very long.

Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream & Tinted Eye Brightener *
Long hours flight and not enough sleep, even though I don't have much skin problems but my dark circles are the worst of all.  I use the hydrating eye cream under my eyes, I found it works better than my current eye gel to wear under the makeup(concealer). Then on top of the eye cream I use the brightener to brighten up the under eye area. This brightener is very thin in texture so it doesn't add more layers but it does a great job of correcting my dark circles. I also have some fine lines under the eyes and these two products together plus concealer will get the job done nicely without looking heavy and dry. I will do a separate post of this set later on.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Treatment Concealer
This is an old favorite of mine and I've done reviews on it and talk about it several times on my blog. The formula of this concealer is great, it's not drying under the eye and it covers and brightens really well. This is the only concealer that I bought with me when traveling and it is the best that I found for my dark circles.

Kiss Me Long & Curl Mascara
Another great pick of kiss me product is this long & curl mascara, like its name, this mascara does lengthening so well that I am amazed because the compliments I got on my lashes after using this. It has a curved brush, similar to the Maybelline Falsies but not the same, it works much better and it's much easier to use. The formula of this mascara contains lots of fiber and it's not too wet so it can get my lashes really really long and curl.

Dense Nourishing Mascara
Another mascara that I'm  in love with is this one that I found in China. It's a local brand that I never heard of and I don't remember it in Chinese. Anyway, this mascara has a huge brush tip, similar to Covergirl Lashblast Volume Mascara. It's very very dark black color which I really like, it does lengthening and volumizing my lashes at least five times better. I don't know what's in it but this mascara holds my curl very well, and it can be easily take off by warm water.

Nars Powder Blush in Orgasm
Last but not least, the one and only Nars orgasm. Nothing more to say about this, it is the most beautiful and wearable blush that I own. I like to use a rosy pink lip color with this blush, it compliments the look so well, looks healthy and flattering.

Thank you all for reading and waiting while I'm away, really appreciated ❤.

April Favorites | 2013

April is a great month and I have been really enjoy some products, but very surprised when I put it all together, not a lot of products to show you. I felt like my skin care and makeup routine are so stable right now, even though I use a lot of products on the daily basis, but not much new stuff.

NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation in 02 Nude
I bought some NYX products during the 40% off sale at Ulta couple weeks ago, this is one of the product I picked. I never tried any powder foundation before so I was very excited to try it. I've tried it with brushes and sponges, dry and wet,  unfortunately it doesn't work out well on me as a foundation. But it turns out well on top of BB cream and tinted moisturizer. I can see a huge difference with this. It provides better coverage and the finish is flawless. It's a matte finish but it's very natural and light. It's very long lasting and help me stay shine free for the whole day. I say this is a great powder from the drugstore and it's a possible dupes of MAC powders.

NYX Roll on Shimmer in platinum
This is nothing new but a wonderful product that I've been using for the past month. I use to like shimmery stuff, such as shimmery eye shadow and glitters, but I don't wear it that often. I decided to get this because it swatch so pretty in the store, super beautiful under indoor lights so I figure it would looks nice to wear it for an evening look. I enjoy put it on the center of my lids and it really adds glamours to the eyes.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Portion
I don't need to say much about it because everybody knows what it is. Personally I never pay attention to eyeshadow primer because I don't have oily lids. I was using the elf eye primer before and never had any problem with it, when I finally finished it I decided to get this one instead since it's already been proved a great product.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation
I think you already knew my opinion on this one since I just did a full review on this foundation. I actually went back to the store and get the 825 buff beige because the one I previous tried is too dark. I can't say enough of good words about it and it is my go to foundation now. Click here if you want to see my post on this.

Simple Cleaning Facial Wipes
This is a random product that I got for removing face makeup. I like that is gentle, it doesn't irritates my skin and cleans well. I still use the bioderma cleaning water but makeup wipes are more easy to travel with.

Updates:
If you follow me on instagram or twitter you might know that I am leaving next week for vacation. I'm really excited travel overseas to China to visit my families and friends, the only concern that I have is how to update my blog while I was there. Hopefully I can find a way to blog and if not I will see you guys in July.

Hope you are doing well and let me know your favorites of this month.
Thanks for reading!
